So, how do you apply for the new Nigerian passport, get the requirements right, check its status online, and how long does it actually take?

First Step: Know What You Need

Before you start, you absolutely need to have your National Identification Number (NIN). The Nigeria Immigration Service now requires it for all passport applications .

For First Time Applicants (Fresh Passport)

Getting your first Nigerian passport requires these original documents:

*   National Identification Number (NIN) Slip: This is your main identity.

*   Birth Certificate: An official birth certificate from the National Population Commission (NPC). If you don’t have one, a sworn Declaration of Age from a court will also work .

*   64 page Passport booklet (10 year validity): Costs ₦200,000.

For Nigerians in the Diaspora:

*   The government left the fees unchanged for those living abroad:

*   $150 USD for the 32 page passport.

*   $230 USD for the 64 page passport .

How Long Does It Take to Get a Passport in Nigeria?
